Terms and Consent

ShakeOnIt ("the platform") lets users create and accept one-on-one Challenges ("Calls") on statements with a true or false outcome, putting platform credits (coins) on the outcome. Coins are virtual points with no real-world monetary value; they cannot be cashed out, and no real money is staked or paid out.

If there is no clear, agreed way to determine who won, don't Shake on it — the platform is not responsible for the content, quality, or verifiability of any statement you post or accept.

Public Shakes

The outcome is checked automatically once the resolution time passes. An automated system reads the Shake's winner rule and checks the outcome against the verification source attached to the Shake (or, where that is inconclusive, a general web search), and proposes a verdict. Where the verdict is clear enough to announce, both sides are told and a challenge window opens, the length of which is set by the platform and shown with the result: during that window the side the verdict goes against may reject it and send the Shake to a human reviewer. If no one does, the Shake settles automatically when the window closes.

A winner rule is written in the language of the Shake's statement. Where the platform shows a Shake or its rule in another language, that is a machine translation for convenience only and may contain mistakes: the rule in its original language is the one agreed to and the one used to settle the Shake.

If the automated check cannot determine the outcome — most often because the result has not been published anywhere yet — it does not guess. It waits and checks again, up to a limited number of attempts set by the platform, and both sides are notified once that settlement is simply waiting on a clearer source. If it still cannot determine the outcome after those attempts, the Shake stops being checked automatically and is placed in front of a member of the platform team. That person does one of two things: set the date and time of one final automatic check, which both sides are told, or send the Shake straight to human review. If that final check still cannot determine the outcome, the Shake goes to human review and a person decides it. The number of attempts, the interval between them, the confidence required before a verdict is announced, and the length of the challenge window are all set by the platform and may change.

Human review means a member of the platform's dispute team reads the Shake, its winner rule, the automated system's reasoning and stated source, and anything the two sides have written, and then decides the outcome. Human review is the ending of every route the automated system cannot finish on its own: a Shake it cannot determine is handed to a person automatically, and an announced verdict can be taken to a person by the side it goes against, within the challenge window. A human decision is final, is not re-checked or overridden by the automated system, and is made within 72 hours of the review opening. Where a dispute deposit was held and a challenged verdict is decided by a person, the side the decision goes against forfeits that deposit, whether or not it was the side that challenged; the other side's deposit is returned. Where the automated check could not determine the outcome and a person decides it, no one is at fault and both deposits are returned.

A sports prediction is a Public Shake created from a game in the schedule the platform publishes. Its statement and winner rule are written by the platform from the game, and it is settled from the game's official final score as reported by the platform's sports data provider; where that result is unavailable or unclear, it is checked like any other Public Shake. If the game is moved, the join deadline and resolution time follow its new start as the winner rule describes, and joining never reopens once closed. If the game is cancelled, or is not played within the period the winner rule states, the Shake is void: every side's committed credits and dispute deposit are returned, no side wins or loses, and no handling fee is charged.

An index prediction is a Public Shake created from a trading day of a stock index the platform publishes. Its statement and winner rule are written by the platform, and it is settled from the official opening and closing values named in the rule, checked like any other Public Shake. Only days on which the exchange is scheduled to trade are offered; if an exchange closes unexpectedly, the winner rule states which close is used.

Private Shakes

A Private Shake is settled by the two of you and nobody else. There is explicitly no referee, no automated verdict, and no dispute option. Each side declares the outcome; if your declarations agree, the Shake settles on that outcome.

If your declarations disagree, both sides forfeit all committed credits plus the handling fee, which is retained by the platform; a Private Shake holds no dispute deposit. The same applies if neither side declares within the declaration window. If one side declares and the other does not, the side that did not declare forfeits and the other takes the pot. These outcomes are automatic and final: they are not reviewed, cannot be appealed, and no member of the platform team will decide a Private Shake for you.

Both kinds

Some Calls and Shakes may require an additional dispute deposit, held alongside your credits. Deposit terms are shown before you confirm a prediction or a Shake.

You must be at least 18 years old (and old enough in your jurisdiction to enter into this kind of agreement) to use ShakeOnIt. The platform is for adults only. You are responsible for the content of any statement you post or accept, and for confirming it is something a reasonable third party could independently check. Disputes are between users; the platform's decisions about deposits, timeouts, and dispute outcomes are final.

We moderate content. New Future Predictions (Shakes) may be screened automatically before they go live, and we may remove or refuse any Future Prediction, and suspend or ban any account, at our sole discretion — including content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, sexual, threatening, or otherwise contrary to our community guidelines. We may take these actions at any time, with or without prior notice. This applies to every Shake, including a Private Shake: "Private" describes who can find and join it, not whether it is screened or stored. By signing up you consent to this.

We store your account details (name, username, email or phone, and your activity on the platform) to operate the service. Because ShakeOnIt is played against other people, your username, display name, profile picture, rating, titles and results — including your standing on the Leaderboard — are shown to other players and on your public profile page; your email, phone number and coin balance are not. The Privacy Policy describes this in full. We do not sell your personal data.

This platform is provided "as is," under active development, and features and rules may change. This Terms and Consent document is what actually governs your use of ShakeOnIt.
